DESIGN I: FINAL PROJECT

Rear View Rendering.jpg

This is our final project of the semester in this class. We were tasked with creating a library in the city of Luquillo, Puerto Rico. We were given a set of rooms to include and a set of drawings: A site plan, at least two floor plans, four elevations, a section, and a variety of interior and exterior renderings..

I started out with the different square footages of the rooms for this project, after creating matrices and bubble diagrams and getting a general layout set up, I created a square on the site and I rearranged the rooms until they fit within the site with the correct square footages. After I got the basic layouts of the rooms set up, I started with the fine print of the project, creating defined spaces for each location. I put the circulation desk in the middle of the first floor, I made one half shelving and computers, and I walled off the more private areas of the first floor. I designed the second floor to be mostly open to fit the rest of the shelving and computers required.

On the site, there is a monument on the site that we had to preserve, so I chose to create a large back plaza connecting the back side of the building to the parking lot behind the building. I chose to create two semi-circular pathways from the monument's original location to provide an entrance to the front side of the building and I created a triangular plaza to match the overhang of the front second floor balcony.
